Hespeler, ON –
The Hespeler Shamrocks Junior Hockey Club is pleased to announce that Greg Henning has officially joined the hockey club ahead of the 2024-2025 season.

Beginning in the 1995-1996 hockey season, Greg’s travels have landed him countless opportunities at the AAA, Jr. B, Jr. C, and international levels. He has travelled across Canada and to Europe with teams on a few occasions as well. Along with his training background and experience, Henning has also served his country for six years with the Canadian Forces (Hastings & Prince Edward Regiment – Infantry Unit and 25th Field Ambulance – Medical Unit).

During the 2009-2010 season Greg was the trainer with the New Hamburg Firebirds. He received multiple awards for his heroics on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 as the New Hamburg Firebirds and Woodstock Navy Vets were in the heat of a contest during the final stanza of play. During the third period altercation, linesman Kevin Brown, stepped in to separate two players who would make their way down to the ice surface. One of the player’s skate blades clipped Brown in his carotid artery and required immediate medial attention.

“I was the lead responder working with the Woodstock trainers and did all we could for Kevin,” said Henning. “Kevin may no longer be officiating games but he is still alive.”

The book “Everyday Hockey Heroes” by TSN Hockey Insider Bob MacKenzie and TSN Broadcaster Jim Lang contains the story of Kevin’s accident.

“I am really excited to join the Hespeler Shamrocks oganization. I’ve been a fan of Junior C hockey since I was a kid. I’m really looking forward to an awesome season of exciting and competitive hockey,” said Henning.

He would go on to add “Go Shamrocks!”
